On 19th September 2024, the 15th Central Students Representative Council (SRC TLC) and the Local National Union of Ghana Students (LNUGS) held their handing-over ceremony at the Dr. Andani Andan Academic Board Chamber located within the UDS Central Administration Block. The event was graced by prominent university figures, including the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elliot Alhassan; the Dean of Students, Dr. Alhassan Musah; the Vice Dean of Students of the Tamale Campus, Dr. Umar Haruna; the Vice Dean of Students for the Nyankpala Campus, Dr. Ing. Linda Laari; along with several other senior officials.




A Celebratory Welcome
In his welcome address, Â Dr. Alhassan Musah commended the outgoing SRC executives for their dedication and contributions to student welfare. He urged the new leadership to uphold transparency, accountability, and service, emphasizing the need for student-centered policies that address pressing issues on campus.
The  Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan, who served as the Chairperson for the ceremony, encouraged the newly elected executives to foster collaboration and innovation in student governance. He stressed the importance of teamwork and commitment in achieving the SRC’s vision and ensuring the continuous growth of student representation.
Inspiring Vision for the Future

The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan, who also served as the Chairman of the ceremony, opened the proceedings with remarks that set a high bar for the new leadership. He encouraged the incoming executives to work diligently and collaboratively with the goal of moving UDS from its current fourth position to either first or second in the Ghana university rankings.
A Formal Transition of Power
Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan administered the oath of office to the new SRC/LNUGS executives, urging them to discharge their duties with dignity and to implement policies that benefit the entire student body.
During the event, the outgoing Central SRC President, HE Hussein Rukaya, advised the new executives to consult University Management whenever challenges arise and assured them of her continued support. In a gesture of goodwill, Madam Rukaya donated a number of customized uniforms to the University’s Cadet Corps to boost their morale. On his part, the outgoing LNUGS President, Mr. Issah Abdul Manan, emphasized the importance of synergy between the SRC and NUGS for achieving collective goals for both the students and the University.
Welcoming the New Leadership
The new Central SRC President, HE Bruce Kambout, expressed his gratitude to the student body for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He pledged to improve the welfare of all students and promised the University Management his maximum cooperation.
Organizations such as GRASAG and IDCL were also present, taking turns to express their goodwill and solidarity with the new Executives.
Looking Ahead
In a symbolic gesture marking the continuity of service, the outgoing and incoming executives exchanged the files of offices and received citations in recognition of their hard work, commitment, and dedication to both the student body and the University at large.
In his closing remarks, the Chairperson, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan, advised the new Executives to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations governing their offices and the University. He also called on the outgoing Executives to serve as advisers to the new team and encouraged GRASAG to work closely with the University by serving as counsellors to the SRC/LNUGS. He concluded by wishing the new leadership a fruitful tenure of office.
